Neko Harbour

Thursday, November 11th 2010                                                                           64º50’S 62º33'W

We made our way to our afternoon landing spot, Neko harbour, which would be our first actual landing on the continent of Antarctica. We were all in high spirits, and excited about this event, just how many people have set foot on the White Continent?
Around two o’clock, we saw that a scout boat was headed for shore, the winds had increased in their ferocity, we could see ice along the shore line from our vantage point on the ship, we were all wondering to ourselves if this would actually happen.
The ‘ding -dong’ was heard followed by the announcement that we had hoped for, there was going to be a landing! ( we knew that Julio would do his best). Our groups were called one by one, and there we were, on the continent, the 7th for many of us. The winds had died down, it was snowing, the large fluffy flakes that we all love were falling, and we were surrounded by our friends the gentoo, in the most idillic of settings. Huge icebergs out at sea, and a massive glacier to our left, in Andvord Bay. Some of us walked up a small hill for a breathtaking view of the bay, and were reverted to our childhood once again as we tobogganed down.
