Cuverville Island

Tuesday, November 9th 2010                                                                               64º41’S 62º38’W

This afternoon our ‘home away from home’ took us to Cuverville Island, one of the most populated Gentoo rookeries in Antarctica. Hundreds of our little black and white friends were there to greet us, they were all over the shore, to the east to the west and up high looking down at us as we arrived on land. Thick snow made it quite tough to climb up from the landing site for us humans, but seemingly no problem at all for these short legged tough little birds! Once we passed our first hurdle John started to trail blaze to the top where the most glorious of breath-taking views of the surrounding area was to be seen.
The penguins looked like they were having so much fun we thought we would give it a go!!!!

Not forgetting our kayaking colleges, Scott E. was their ‘master’ followed by Osi their zodiac safety guide. This was their first time out paddling amongst the icebergs silently, gliding close up to the porpoising Gentoos.

What a fabulous day was had by us all!
